| Dr. Robert E. Bushman welcomes you to
Grossmont Dermatology. Dr. Bushman loves doing cosmetic procedures that
can make you look and feel your best. Below are a variety of procedures
that he does in our office every day.
PAINLESS MOLE REMOVAL
“If I’d known it was this easy I would have had it
done years ago.” Dr. Bushman has heard this phrase numerous times
after helping a patient eliminate an unwanted mole. He uses a number of
techniques, which almost completely eliminate any discomfort. Moles that
are raised above the skin surface are injected to make them numb, shaved
off at the skin surface, and bleeding is easily stopped with application
of a liquid medication.

BOTOX®
BOTOX® treatments eliminate frown lines between the eyebrows.
This same treatment has also proven effective in treating crows feet and
horizontal wrinkles across the forehead. BOTOX® is a liquid medication
which is simply implanted into the muscle beneath a wrinkle. The medication
stops the muscles underneath your skin from contracting and this minimizes
the wrinkles on the surface. BOTOX® is not permanent, but it does
last for about 4-6 months and causes remarkable improvement for many people.
The treatment is exceptionally safe.

RESTYLANE® PERLANE® JUVEDERM™
These injectible dermal fillers are made of non-animal
based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already
exists in the human body, providing volume and fullness to the skin. Injected
into facial wrinkles and folds, these dermal fillers provide instant and long lasting
wrinkle correction, lasting twice as long as regular collagen, up to 6 months and in some cases longer.

RADIESSE™
Radiesse™ is an injectable filler substance that can smooth and enhance key areas of the face - reducing lines between the nose and the mouth, filling in "smile lines" and "frown lines" or diminishing blemishes such as acne scars. It is made of a form of synthetic calcium combined in a gel that gives Radiesse a cream-like texture for a soft and natural feel. Radiesse provides up to a year or more of correction.
SCULPTRA
If loss of facial fullness is your concern, Sculptra® can help improve
the appearance by increasing skin thickness in the treated area. Sculptra®
is comprised of Poly-L-lactic acid, a substance that has been used for
many years in dissolvable stitches and various types of implants. Sculptra®
is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss and
provides a gradual increase in skin thickness. Visible results appear
within the first few treatment sessions.

ARTEFILL®
ArteFill® is the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable wrinkle filler for the correction of smile lines. ArteFill contains PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres. These unique microspheres are not absorbed by the body and provide the permanent support your skin needs for long-lasting wrinkle correction. Depending on the depth of their wrinkles and folds, most patients get the results they want with one or two treatments.

ACTIVE FX™/DEEP FX™
ActiveFX and DeepFX use a revolutionary fractional laser technology to significantly improve aged, sun-damaged or scarred skin. The low-downtime procedures use fractional CO2 laser microbeams to precisely target the deep dermal layers of the skin. This leads to tissue regeneration and new collagen formation throughout the entire treatment area. Because only a fraction of the skin is actually touched by the laser, healing time is short, generally around five to six days.

THERMAGE®
The Thermage® procedure is the only non-invasive treatment
that delivers tighter skin, renewed contours to the face and neck; smoother,
more open and alert eyes with less eyelid droop; and smoother skin texture
and tone to arms, legs and abdomen. You’ve heard the buzz on Oprah
and now Thermage® is available to you right here at Grossmont Dermatology.
The radiofrequency technology of Thermage® uniformly heats the deeper
collagen layers of the skin causing gradual tightening over 2 to 6 months
after treatment. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to
further tighten the skin, resulting in healthier, smoother skin and a
more youthful appearance. The number of treatments varies between patients.
On average, three Thermage® treatments are recommended for optimal
improvement.
MEDIUM DEPTH CHEMICAL PEEL
If you're looking for something that's halfway between a freshening
peel and a laser peel, this may be just right for you. Here's a technique
that will improve liver spots, freckles, and fine wrinkling with only
one treatment.
The procedure is simple and performed in the office. Dr. Bushman starts
with a freshening peel using what is known as Jessner's solution to remove
the loose surface scales. This is followed by 35% TCA (trichloroacetic
acid). Recovery takes approximately 5 days and results in a more youthful,
even complexion. Here are photographs of a patient who had medium depth
chemical peel.

LEG VEIN TREATMENT
(Sclerotherapy & Ambulatory Phlebectomy)
Wear shorts again! Sclerotherapy is a simple office procedure for the
treatment of spider and varicose veins. Dr. Bushman treats spider veins
with injections of a concentrated saltwater solution, which irritates
the blood vessel wall and causes it to close. These treatments are usually
repeated at two weeks intervals until all the vessels have been eliminated.
He also treats larger varicose veins by a similar injection technique
followed by the use of elastic compression stockings. Some people who
have only a small number of these large vessels benefit more from a simple
surgical technique known as ambulatory phlebectomy where tiny incisions
only a quarter of an inch long are used to remove the blood vessels. This
method is highly effective and utilizes incisions that are much smaller
than those needed for surgical stripping. Here are some photographs of
patients who have been treated with these techniques.
