Dr. Sam ("Saami") Khalifian

Dr. Sam ("Saami") Khalifian is a board-certified medical dermatologist now practicing at Grossmont Dermatology. His clinical interests include adult and pediatric autoimmune connective tissue disease, skin cancer surgery, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, hair loss disorders, vitiligo and pigmentary disorders, eczema, and psoriasis.

He is an expert in cosmetics and laser surgery and has worked directly with the inventors and developers of the newest and most advanced laser devices, including Fraxel laser resurfacing, CoolSculpting body contouring devices, and lasers for vascular and pigmented lesions. He uses laser treatments to improve sun damage, rosacea, scarring, wrinkles, acne and other skin conditions, and performs all types of cosmetic procedures, including:
  • Botox
  • Soft tissue augmentation for facial lines and volume loss with fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra and Radiesse
  • Chemical peels
  • Microneedling
  • PRP
  • Sclerotherapy for veins
  • Tissue tightening

Dr. Khalifian completed his undergraduate studies at University of California, Berkeley, majoring in molecular & cellular biology. He received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency at Harvard University School of Medicine, with affiliations at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Boston Children's Hospital. During his clinical training at Harvard, he worked directly with the world-experts in adult and pediatric connective tissue disease, the leaders in laser and cosmetic dermatology, and the nation’s premiere cancer institute with a focus on cutaneous lymphoma. After his medical training at Johns Hopkins and Harvard, he joined the faculty at UCLA serving as their expert in connective tissue diseases, cosmetics, and skin cancer.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Khalifian has written numerous chapters in dermatology textbooks and published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in publications including The Lancet, The Journal of the Academy of Dermatology and JAMA Dermatology. While at Johns Hopkins and Harvard, he served as co-investigator on several IRB approved studies. He is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Khalifian is a Southern California native who was raised in Orange County. When he's not working, he enjoys snowboarding, surfing, and hiking.
